Abbreviation: DCE
With a history stretching back over 65 years, providing technical education within a modern educational environment and strong academic staff, DCE is strongly identified with engineering education in India . Since its inception and foundation, DCE has constantly lead the way in reform movements, and in the latter era of the Republic of India , DCE has assumed pivotal roles in the reconstruction, modernisation and administration of the society. The efforts and expertise of DCE graduates have been major contributors in the planning and construction of India 's infrastructure. DCE is an insitution which defines and continues to update methods of engineering and architecture in India . It provides its students with modern educational facilities while retaining traditional values, as well as using its strong industrial contacts to mold young, talented individuals who can compete in the global arena. The aim of DCE is to rank among leading universities globally. Consequently, DCE 's mission is to educate individuals to be competitive not only in India , but all over the world. Within an intensely competitive environment, the college has adopted a dynamic, global, high-quality, creative and communicative approach in education, as well as research and development. Keeping abreast with modern developments, DCE is constantly restructuring itself and renovating its physical infrastructure as well as its research and education facilities.
Department of Applied Chemistry & Polymer Technology
The Program is an excellent blend of polymer science and chemical technology and is of its own kind in the country. A polymer scientist gets the knowledge of polymer testing & quality control, polymer synthesis, polymer characterisation, polymer processing, polymer product design, process equipment design, Heat and Mass Transfer, Chemical Reaction Engineering, Industrial waste management, CAD & CAM, Ion-exchange, Biopolymers, Mould and Die Design, Environmental Pollution Control, Industrial waste management etc. Students undergo industrial training and carry out experimental work for major projects.
The Department of Applied Chemistry and Polymer Technology has contributed significantly to higher education and research in the area of Polymer Technology and allied sciences. It possesses well-equipped and modern laboratories in polymer processing, polymer testing, polymer synthesis, polymer chemistry, chemical reaction engineering, Membrane Technology. The Department closely interacts with the industries, R&D organisations and professional institutions. The department offers a four-year B.E. program on Polymer Science & Chemical Technology. It is an industry-oriented Program started in 1998. The inter disciplinary Program was introduced to prepare the skilled technical manpower for polymer industry & chemical industry, which has a stable growth every year. They also conduct Interaction Meets with experts from Polymer Industry for better academic interactions. They visit various industries during the Program of their study for knowing the industrial needs and removal of industrial problems.
The department also runs a 4 Semester Full-time and 6 Semester Part-time M.E. level program in Polymer Technology, which has been specifically designed for Engineers, Technologists and Scientists with research and development aptitude in the industries. Its aim is to provide the students with a profound education, as well as methodological preparation for their own research, educational or industrial activities. Special emphasis is, however, laid on advanced processing concept, design, development, computer aided plant design, fabrication technology, polymer processing and polymerisation engineering, property estimation and modeling and research with prototype microprocessor based control. Over the years a good number of students have successfully completed their M.E. (Polymer Tech) Part-time & Full-time Program and have got immensely benefited.
